| I purchased these as a present for my dad and upon unwrapping them to charge the batteries, instantly wished I had got them for myself. I tested them around the house and in the garden and only started to experience a little background hiss about 50 yards from the receiver and through about four brick walls! The sound is crisp with plenty of base and seemed equally good for both music and TV/movies. I have owned several wired headphones and was dubious about how a wireless version would compare - let's just say I was pleasantly surprised. The freedom alone is worth the purchase price. I will be buying myself a pair when the next pay check arrives and I suggest you do the same. |

Just purchased these phones from you and i must sat i was totally blown away with the great sound.Let me start by saying I'm severe to moderately deaf and had all but given up listening to my large cd collection which were starting to gather dust.Id heard they work great with hearing aids what i didn't know until i discovered by accident was they really excel when used with the t switch setting on the hearing aid .Id give them a 10 if i could.

As someone with hearing problems ( I wear in canal hearing aids) & knowing that Sennheiser make hearing aids I thought I would give these a try...To say I was pleased would be a great understatement, previously I was using Sony headphones.....these blow them out of the water.....I am hearing detail I have not heard for years..........worth the money........to me worth double the purchase price. Clarity is brilliant...
Thank you Sennheiser |

After one and a half years of daily use I am still enjoying them as day one. I haven't changed the battery yet. I find this product an essential for watching TV and movies on my PC without disturbing the neighbors. I am very selective about my sound products and I consider myself having a good pitch, although I am not a professional sound engineer. Therefore I stand by the quote:"if you like the sound then it's good enough". I have a range of headphones from Sennheiser and AKG and I have not a single complain to make about the sound quality of RS 140.
I have read other reviewers complaining about the "analogue and FM" transmit. Analogue to digital, and back, to analogue conversation are expensive and not always necessary in "real time" situations. Error correction works fine in analogue in this headset, along with sound source "locking". If you need to find a clear frequency there are three available. Unless you are really unlucky there must be at least one clear.
I like this headset as I use it at nights when I fall asleep watching movies. I wake up in the morning finding the headset thrown to the floor or squashed between the wall and the bed. That's a pretty hard resistance test and they are passing it.
Cons:
The only think I dislike is the balance dial, placed next to the volume dial, with the exact same size as the latter. Balance on headphones is meant for people with hearing impairment. From one point of view is good that Sennheiser had considered people with disabilities in this design but on the other it sometimes makes me think that it was targeted explicitly for older people with hearing disabilities and little interest in exceptional sound clarity, which is not true for their sound quality.
Also I tend to forget that initially I found them a bit big, uncomfortable and tight something my friends remind me when they try them at my place. I believe it's something that gets unnoticed after a while. |

Sennheiser RS 140 Wireless Balanced Headphones
I bought these heaphones after a personal recommendation, and I
was in no way disappointed. I need to wear headphones for long periods
of time at night, and these Sennheiser 140's hit the spot exactly.
They're comfortable to wear, even for extended periods, partially thanks
to their lightness, and partially from the soft padding and simple internal size adjustment mechanism. Sound quality is excellent across all ranges, albeit perhaps a little lacking in bass for some people. Extensive testing during video work, games and music revealed very little the headphones could not cope with competently. Turning on the in-built audio-compression seemed to make little difference to audio quality, except for in the subtle nuances of certain music genres; a situation in which I would not use compression anyway.
I am able to receive a strong signal from the base unit anywhere inside my 3 bedroom house, and also anywhere in the (admiteddly small) garden. The only product in my house that seems in any way able to interfere with the signal is a BT cordless telephone; and even that only announces itself sporadically with short bursts of crackle.
The heaphones themselves contain a sturdy, but plastic, on/off switch on the left ear, and volume, tuning and L/R balance on the right. The volume dial is sensitive, but easily reached at the top, without even thinking of taking the heaphones off. It's quite possible to accidentally knock the buttom button (L/R Balance), but the dial 'sticks' in a notch in the middle, so such a situation is easily remedied without having to take the heaphones off also. The middle button is tuning, and this is a left/right jog switch which initiates automatic tuning up or down the frequency range. None of these buttons can be 'locked', but the tuning is much harder to move than the other dials, so is less prone to being knocked accidentally. If the signal to the heaphones drops off for more than a few consecutive minutes, an audible bleep is heard in the earpieces, before the heaphones turn themselves off to conserve battery. Make sure this doesn't happen when they're on your head; it's loud (if you were listening to something loud), and headache inducing.
The base unit itself is built of a study plastic, and build quality feels solid. The headphones simply rest on the metal cradle and a connection is made directly to the thin metal strips between the padding on the headband. Two buttons on the bottom-front of the base select between the 3 broadcast channels, and turn the audio compression on and off. Three easily seen lights indicate the status of on/off, charge and audio compression (on/off). With or without the heaphones on the base unit, it feels a little top-heavy, and more than once I have dropped both headphones and charging base from a 4 foot shelf. Luckily, both are so light and well-constructed that they have not suffered so much as a scratch.
After coming up to a year of use, none of the padding anywhere on the unit (on the headband, around the ears, etc) has degraded, while they have clearly been well-used (the words 'sennheiser on top of the headband are next to worn-off).
I can't recommend these 140's any more highly, well worth the £100 I
paid for them. |
