Keep on a heat sink

The converters are great. I can attach a power strip and plug in multiple things.

But they all generate a LOT of heat.

Simple solution, set it on a heat-sink. I put mine on the metal base of a floor lamp. That way it stays nice an cool.

In the past I have had them melt holes in a carpet. Though it took several months to accomplish the job.

My DVD player exploded - Silly Me

I wish I had found out about this gadget earlier. I had come back from the USA with a brand spanking new DVD Player. I was about to watch a US format DVD film on a romantic night in with my wife. I brought out the DVD player, plugged it in directly and it just exploded!!! No more DVD player and no film for that night. As you can guess, my wife wasn't too pleased.

Now I know why it exploded. Silly me, I should I bought myself a transformer.

I used it for my laptop, external hard drive and camcorder battery charger (all bought in USA) and it works fine with very little heat generation. I don't have any idea how it behaves with heavy weight commercial appliances. Please check the VA limit of the appliance before tucking the plug in this converter. If you are using an appliance with more VA limit, it is bound to generate more heat.

I've had this for a few weeks now, does exactly what it says it will do. I haven't noticed it heating up, but keep it unplugged most of the time so it won't draw power when it isn't being used.

Came on time and as described.

I bought this for my embroidery machine (which is an American machine). I had been worried about getting one with the correct watts, voltage etc, but this one is fine.
It doesn't make any noise and doesn't get hot. It is quite heavy, but then I think all the step downs are. It was much cheaper than the alternative at Maplins, for example and arrived quite quickly.
